The tooth contact pattern simulation is commonly used for inspection of production gears. If you machine gears from our 3d models the shape and location of the tooth contact pattern on the real gear will be identical to 3d contact pattern simulation on 3d model.
Localization and positioning of the tooth contact is commonly used in gear industry to compensate for misalignments in assembly.
